CHRISTCHURCH.

Dear Bee, April 29. The two dances given in race week were a most decided success, and a good many visitors were at both. Miss Cox’s assembly dance at the Art Gallery on Tuesday evening was well attended, and a very bright and enjoyable affair. The decorations in the supper-room were exceedingly tasteful of chrysanthemums (now in all their glory) and autumn foliage, also ladiant with colour. Miss Cox wore a becoming gown of pink and fawn, quite an autumn tinge ; Mrs Armitage, very handsome eau de-Nil brocade finished with lace, diamond and pearl ornaments ; Mrs Bruges, accordion-pleated dress of a rich yellow ; Mrs Slater, black evening gown ; Miss Hunter Brown (Nelson), yellow brocade, the bodice finished with green velvet; Miss Neill (Dunedin), becoming gown of ivory satin ; Miss Dickson (Auckland), black silk; Miss Elworthy, white brocade finished with lace ; Miss Harley, bine silk and pink roses ; Miss Meares, white silk with garlands of violets ; her sister also in white ; Miss Fulton, handsome gown of white satin ; Mrs H. Wood, heliotrope brocade; Miss Palmer, pretty steel grey silk ; Miss Gresson. pink and cream lace ; Miss Todhunter, white trimmed with deep yellow ; Miss E. Davie, white satin ; Miss Jacobs, pale blue ; Miss Garsia, white satin with pearl trimming ; Miss Thomas, very pretty heliotrope satin ; Miss Williams, black and eau-de-Nil ; Miss Haslam and Miss Ainger, white silk; Miss Thompson, black relieved with white ; and Miss Townend were some of those present.

Dolly Vale.
