Dear Bee, April io. On Friday afternoon A large AFTERNOON TEA was given by Mrs Michie (Bank of New Zealand) for her sister, Miss Le Cren (Timaru), who is to be married on the 28th April at Timaru. A goodly number ot guests were present to say farewell to her. Mrs Michie received her visitors in the drawing-room, which was prettily decorated with flowers and pot plants. Tea was served in the dining-room. The table was exquisitely arranged with high specimen vases, which contained yellow daisies, grass, etc. From vase to vase yellow and ruby ribbon was entwined on the cloth, and broad yellow and green silk ribbon was placed between the vases. A great deal of music, both instrumental and vocal, was gone through during the afternoon, which passed away most p'easant'y. Those I recollect singing were Mesdames Parker, Robinson, Vallentine, the Misses R. Reynolds. E. Neill, and K Stephenson. Those who played were Misses Roberts and Frickers and Mrs Eardley Reynolds. On Thursday afternoon Miss Ethel Mill also gave a SMALL TEA to bid farewell to Miss Le Cren. On Friday evening Mrs Ftnker gave a TREMENDOUS EUCHRE PARTY as a send-off to Mr Leslie Harris, who is going on a six months' trip to the Old Country. Euchre was played in the large dining-room, where there was ample space to move about, even though there were about sixty guests. The top prizes, which were very handsome, were awarded to Miss Batchelor and Mr D. Mac Lean, and the loobies, who also received fine prizes, were Miss F. MacLean and Mr McPherson. The supper-table was daintily decorated with bowls of yellow daisies and baskets of maidenhair fern. Mrs Finker was most becomingly gowned in a black brocade, the bodice trimmed with black accordion-pleated chiffon over yellow satin. Harvey, and many others. After euchre was over all adjourned to the supper-room, and while this was going on the diningroom was cleared for dancing. Miss Mac Lean sang, as did also Miss L. Shand. Mr Turner gave a musical recitation, and Messrs D. Mac Lean and McPherson played pianoforte solos. On Saturday week the boys' HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS were held at Carrisbrook. A large numler of people were present, mostly the parents of the boys and friends. The sports commenced at half-past one and continued till about five o'clock. During the afternoon tea and cakes were given by several ladies and gentlemen. The Challenge Cup awarded to the boy scoring the most points in the sports was easily won by Master M. Holmes, who is a very fast runner and a good athlete. There was some music dnring the afternoon, and one or two pianoforte solos, which were performed by Miss Fitchett in a most artistic and finished manner.
