PICTON.

Dear Bee, March 23. The Picton people have enjoyed another grand excursion down the Sound. Taking advantage of St Patrick s Day, they again hired the ’Torea,’ and this time went down Queen Charlotte Sound through Patten's Passage to East Bay. Most of us were struck with the immensity of the bay, having no idea from simply going up and down the Sound as passengers that there were such huge inlets and bays. We landed at Ten Acre Bay and proceeded to enjoy ourselves. During the afternoon several parties went out a-fishing and met with phenomenal success ; some of them, in fact, could hardly find room to stand in the boat for fish. The excitement was immense. A party from Ravenscliffe —Mrs and the Misses Turner (two), Messrs Turner (two), and some of the surveyors from Port Gore—joined us, and also Mr Radcliffe from the next bay, so that we mustered very strong, and lunch was as much of a scramble as a Sunday-school picnic. The Picton party were Mrs and Miss Scott, Mrs and the Misses Allen (three), Mr and Mrs Rutherford, Misses Rutherford (four), Mrs and Misses Seymour (five). Misses Linton (three), Mrs and Misses Fell (two), Misses Western (three), Messrs Western (two), Mr and Mrs C. Western, Mr and Mrs Stow. Messrs S. C. Allen, H. Stow, W. Fell. Kenny, Misses Millington, Mabin, M. Philpotts, Mr C. Philpotts, Mr Mcßeth, Miss Cawte, Mr Hunter-Brown (Nelson). Some Blenheim friends were to have joined us, but their horse fell lame, and though we waited three quarters of an hour for them, they only arrived in Picton in time to see the ‘ Torea ’ disappearing round the corner. They spent the day visiting some of the beauty spots and taking snap-shots, while we bewailed their absence and wondered what had happened to them. On Friday the Picton Borough school EXCURSIONED TO BLENHEIM by train. Quite a number of people took advantage of the cheap fares to go a-shopping. and several of our girls remained there for the night to see the performance of ' lolanthe ’by the Blenheim Choral Society. The performance surpassed all expectations, and those who wit nested the efforts of the Society on that occasion are looking forward to other performances in the future.
