BOWLING.

The secretary of the Auckland Bowling Club has made a suggestion that teams from Ponsonby and Auckland that have not competed in Pennant matches meet for a friendly game, and it is likely the idea will be acted upon.

I am informed that the Mount Eden Bowling Club ex pect to have their green ready for play by Friday next January 29th. The Ponsonby Bowling Club have selected the follow

ing team to represent them in the Champion Fours for silver-mounted bowls presented by the secretary of the Auckland Bowling Association : —Messrs A. Brookes, A. S. Russell, H. Brookes, and R. Ballantyne. The first draw takes place on February 6th, on the Grafton green, when the following Clubs will be opposed to each other : — Newmarket v. Devonport, Ponsonby v. Remuera, Auckland, a bye. On Saturday last six teams from the Remuera and Ponsonby Bowling Clubs met for friendly games on the Ponsonby green. The teams representing the Western Suburb were picked by ballot, thus giving the whole Club a chance of playing, and at the same time weakening the teams to a certain extent. The rains in the latter part of the week had the effect of putting the greens in good condition for rolling, and green Superintendent Ballantyne took advantage of this, and had 6 perfect rinks pegged out for the contest. The games throughout were well contested, Ponsonby just scraping home with one point to the good, the scores being Remuera Il8; Ponsonby, 119. Tea and light refreshments were dispensed during the afternoon by Mesdames McDonald and Russell, assisted by their daughters and the Misses Rees. Remveka. Ponsonby. No. 2 Rink. Dennison v. R.
