THE Gisborne hounds met last Thursday at Mr Woodbine Johnston’s station at Muriwai. All the horses out jumped well, especially Miss Reynolds’ Kildare and Mr Williamson’s New Year. Miss Reynolds, Miss N. Reynolds, and Miss R. Reynolds were the the only ladies following. Amongst the gentlemen present were Messrs Crombie, Sherrat, Martin, Williamson (Master), Brewster, and Tucker.

On Tuesday Christchurch hunters and their friends had a grand time at Meadow Bank, the home of Mr and Mrs G. Rhodes, who entertained the large field at quite a sumptuous luncheon with their well-known hospitality. Among those riding were Mesdames G. Rhodes, Overton, Dalgety, Woodman, Misses Haydon, Murray (two), Parkinson, Messrs G. Rhodes, R. H. Rhodes, Dalgety, Overton, Haydon (two), Bassett, Neave, Perry, Woodman, E. Palmer, Cardale, Murray, Jackson, Stewart, etc. The meet of the Christchurch Hounds at Merle wood, on the 30th of last month, was one of the largest gatherings of the kind witnessed in Canterbury. Fully sixty riders were present, and there was a very numerous assemblage in vehicles. During one of the runs the pack got on to the railway line, and were brought off only just in time toescape a passing train. Amongst those present were Misses Gerard, Overton, Haydon, Helmore, and Nedwill (two), Mrs Knowles, and Mrs Longden, Messrs R. H. Rhodes, P. Campbell, Neave (three), Haydon, H. Cotterill, J. D. Hall, W. B. Cowlishaw. Palairet, Kimbell, Bayly, and Cautley, C. Turrell, McClure, Bassett (two), Murray. Thomas, Bullock, Stewart, Gerard, Beswick, Lawrence, Westmacott, Lascelles, Mr and Mrs Overton, Mrs Bullock, Dr. and Mrs Guthrie. Dr. Palmer, Miss Cowlishaw. and Mrs J. D. Hall, Miss Ronalds, Miss Cotterill, Mrs P. Campbell, Miss Haydon, Mr B. and Miss Carew, Mr Joynt, Mr and Mrs Voice, Mrs Ferguson, Mrs Cooke, and many others.

The guests were entertained by Mrs, Miss, and Mr Overton.

The Christchurch hounds met again on the following Tuesday at Meadowbank. Several fine runs were enjoyed, and the Company, a large one, was entertained at lunch by Mr and Mrs G. Rhodes. Some of the riders were : Mrs G. Rhodes, Mrs Woodman, Mrs Overton, Mrs Dalgety,Miss Haydon,Misses Murray (two),Miss Parkinson, Messrs R. 11. Rhodes, G. Rhodes, Neave, Haydon (two), Bassett (two), Perry, Thomas, T. Stewart. Cardale, F. Overton, W. Woodman, H. Jackson, C. Dalgety, Murray (two). E. Palmer and many others.

Mr John Goodson and Dr. Harrison have been appointed master and deputy-master respectively of the Egmont Hunt Club.

The Brackenfield hounds have had some fine runs of late. The third meet of the season took place at Leslie Hills on May 20th, and was followed by another at Mr A. Macfarlane’s, at Acbray, on the 23rd. Both meetings were well patronised, and good sport was enjoyed. Some of those present at the second meet were : —Mrs Thomson, Mrs Woodhouse, Misses McDonald on Gentleman Jim, Thomson on the Clipper, Rutherford (2), Newton and Nichols, Messrs A. McFarlane, Thomson on Chutnee, Fox on Dick, R. Wilson on Texas, H. Lance on Topsy, O'Connell on Trilby, McKay on Wisdom, Cocks on The Clown, Watson on Ballyhoolley 11., G. Rutherford on Bones, E. Lane on Freddy, and Mnllane, Masters Thompson on Amuri, S. Rutherford on Landsborough, O. Rutherford on a bay, G. Rutherford on The Tug, and N. and G. Fulton. Driving were Mrs Fulton, Mrs Nicholls, Miss Wigney and five children, Mr and Mrs D. McFarlane, Mr W. McFarlane and Miss Hargreaves, Mr Wilson, Mrs Fox, Misses Wilson, and Bathgate, Mrs D. Rutherford and Miss Hassall, and Mr W. O. Rutherford and Miss Cook. Mr Macfarlaue and his sister Mrs Fulton entertained the guests. In the case of the Leslie Hills meet Mr and Mrs Rutherford were the entertainers.

The same pack met at Mr Bailey’s, Balcairn, on the 27th,and the somewhat rough but very exhilarating runs were enjoyed by a numerous company, among whom were :—Mrs Dierce, Mrs McQuillan, Messrs Starky, F. H. Lance, Ensor, Olliver, Cocks, Crossley, McQuillan, Gray, Macdonald, McCallum, Binney, Wilson, Mills, R. Ligget, Miss Courage, Miss Wilson, Mrs Crossley, Miss Macdonald, Miss Todhunter, Miss Ligget, Miss B. Ligget.

There were about a quarter of a century of riders at the meet of the South Canterbury Hunt Club at German Cottages on the 21st May. The pack was again out on the 25th and the 27th. and good sport was the result on both occasions.

The Poverty Bay hounds met at the Waikanae on Tuesday. The hounds knew the course too well, for on being brought into the first paddock, they were off at once, quite regardless of the fact that the drag had not even started. After some delay the huntsmen managed to get them back, and the drag was Sfent on. The run was a very good one, all the horses jumping well. The big jump of the day was the sod wall and county drain. The ladies following were Miss Reynolds, Miss Nora Reynolds (Lofty), Miss R. Reynolds (Ginger), Miss Rosie Rees (Paddy), and Miss Sherratt on a big grey horse. Amongst the gentlemen were Messrs Williamson (New Year), Sherratt (Kate), Tucker, Bennet, Martin (Cloth of Gold), Dunlop, and Brewster.
