Dear Bee, April 29. The weather was beautifully fine for THE AUTUMN RACE MEETINtJ last Wednesday and Thursday, which was held at Richmond Park, as usual. The country was looking its best, and the many strangers who were present must have greatly admired the fine view from the Grandstand. The races themselves were good, better even than usual. A great many horses came from other parts of New Zealand. The Stoke Orphanage band was in attendance. and did good work, which was so much appreciated that during the first day over £6 were collected and presented to the boys. Now I must try and give you the description of some of the dresses. Mrs (Dr.) Roberts wore a handsome green tweed with beaver trimmings, becoming bonnet; Mrs Percy Adams, elegant combination of fawn and brown, hat to match; Mrs G. Watts (Blenheim), wore a brown and green tweed with green velvet, small black hat with feathers; Mrs Burnes, grey with electric blue trimmings, hat to match; Mrs Brow ning (Cable Bay), dark red gown, fawn jacket, small hat e/t suit) ; Mrs Pitt, black silk, lace mantle, black bonnet with handsome petunia trimmings ; Miss Pitt, brown flowered silk with sleeves of darker shade, brown and gold toque with pink roses; Miss G. Pitt, pretty brown cloth gown, straw beefeater hat to match ; Mrs Cleghorn (Blenheim), shot grey silk blouse, black skirt , black hat with ribbons; Mrs Thornton, black serge costume, black hat with green ribbons; Miss Mcßae, green tweed, black hat with feathers: Mrs Scaife. grey costume, hat to match ; Mrs Mcßae wore black. at‘Carlton House. Mrs Burnes. who wore a handsome black brocade gown with white lace and pink roses, made an excellent hostess The other guests were Mr and Mrs Lyell, the latter wearing black silk ; Mr and Mrs H. Edwards, the latter in black silk with lace cap : Mrs Thornton, red silk evening blouse, black lace skirt; Mrs Roberts, grey crepon with chiffon and heliotrope flowers ; Miss G. Pitt, white silk with lace trimmings ; Miss Jones, black lace over yellow silk; Miss A. Bell, white silk with pretty chiffon frills; Miss Duff, pink net with green ribbons; Miss Gribben looked well in heliotrope flowered silk blouse, heliotrope crepon skirt : Miss Wood, black silk and lace with pink on bodice; Miss Mackay, black velvet skirt and sleeves, bodice of nil green : Miss Roberts, pink evening gown: Miss Edwards, pale blue: Miss Moore wore black. The gentlemen presen r were Messrs Sporle. Burnes. Thornton. Broad (two). Bonar. Lunn. Hough. Dunean, Corrigan. Green. Lowe. Luxford and Walker. The games were most exciting and very close, at the finish no less than five gentlemen being equal for the first place, which was eventually gained by Mr Ixawe. and Mr Lunn won the second prize. Mrs Roberts won the first ladies' prize and Mrs Thornton the second. All the prizes were most handsome. After supper, which was a most excellent one. songs were sung by Mrs Burnes. Mrs Roberts, ani others. The table decorations were lovely, and the whole place was beautifully decorated with flags and flowers. Altogether a very pleasant evening was spent. On Friday afternoon Mrs Percy Adams gave an AFTERNOON TEA at her residence. * Melrose, for her sister-in-law, Mrs G. Watts, who is at present staying with her. Amongst those present were Mr-dames Pitt. Burnes. R. Kingdon.Roberta,A Glasgow. Harris. Markav. L Adams. C. Watts. Miss Pitt. etc. During the after noon Mrs Adams charmed those present by her beautiful singing. Mrs Roberts. Mrs Burnes. and Miss Pitt also sang. < >n Monday Mrs Pogson (Hardy street) also gave an afternoon tea for Mrs Janisch (Wellington), who is staying with her. Among-t the guests were Mesdames Howie.
