GISBORNE.

Dear Bee, March 28. There seems very little in the way of gaiety to chronicle this week. TENNIS at the Club’s Courts last Saturday as usual attracted a good man) players and spectators. Amongst the ladies present were Mr

Gudgeon, wearing a pretty costume of grey and black ; her daughter looked well m a flowered muslin ; Miss G. Crawford wore a well fitting black gown: Miss Watson, muslin blouse, bronze silk skirt, fawn hat trimmed with shot silk . Miss Newton, blue blouse, brown skirt, sailor hat: Miss Pasley, light blouse and skirt ; Misses E. and M. Williamson, blue frocks. The Men - Handicap Singles were concluded on the preceding Saturday, when Mr E. A. Rees, after a good game, beat Mr Sim. the former thus winning the trophy offered by the Club. Entries for the Ladle-*' Singles and the Croquet Tournament close very shortly, and next Saturday may see both well begun. On Wednesday evening Mrs Walter Wethered gave a CHILDREN’S DANCE. which al. the little ones seemed to enjoy thoroughly. Mr Fergusson (who, by-the-bye, has decided to remain in Poverty Bay for the winter) and Mr Crombie did all they could to assist in amusing the children. All Mr Crombie’s friends will be pleased to hear that he is one of the lucky shareholders in the new Juliet mine at Coolgardic No one who knows Mr Crombie will, 1 am sure, grudge him his good fortune, as his many sterling qualities have made him as great a favourite in Gisborne as he is in the neighbourhood of his sheep station at the Mahia. A great number of townspeople left Gisborne for the Waimata Hall last night, where a .CONCERT AND DANCE was to be held. Most of those from town stayed all night at the station homesteads in the valley, and returned to town this morning. Mr William Kenway. I believe, originated the idea of holding a series of these entertainments during the summer, and they have all proved most successful. PERSONAL. Mrs Willock is wearing a smart costume of brown canvas, small sailor hat; Miss Willis looks well in an electric blue costume, becoming hat; Miss Adair I noticed the other dav looking very pretty in dark gown, lace collarette and cuffs; viiss M. Rees looks chic in a light blouse, dark skirt and sailor hat ; she also carries a small w’hite walking stick. Mr Mann has returned from Auckland, and looks much better for his trip. Mr and Mrs H. N. Watson have been staying in Palmerston North during the Polo Tournament. Huth.
