INVERCARGILL CITY GUARD SOLOISTS.
A FAMOUS QUARTETTE. ON this page there appears a group of the winning soloists at the last two New Zealand band contests —Invercargill 1894, and Timaru 1895. All are members of the justly famous Invercargill City Guards. Lieutenant Mohr was winner of the handsome gold medal presented by the proprietors of the Intercolonial Brass Band News to the bandmaster of the winning band in the contest selection, Schubert, the Invercargill City Guards winning the maximum number of points. They again distinguished themselves at Timaru, where they were beaten by the Wellington Garrison by two points only for premier position. They also stood second in the marching competition, and with two firsts and three seconds in the solo competition, they had by far and away the best record of any band competing.
