WELLINGTON.

Dear Bee, January 2. Since last I wrote one or two very interesting events have taken place, one being the TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENTS of New Zealand, which were held on the Thorndon Courts on Boxing and the two following days. With the exception of the first day, which was decidedly breezy, we had lovely weather, so that everything went off well, and the general opinion is that it was the most successful meeting yet held, both financially and otherwise. The courts were in splendid order, and for the convenience of the spectators a small platform was erected all down one side, and placed all round the enclosure were forms and chairs. A large marquee was put up in an adjoining paddock, where strawberries and cream, ices, tea. and all sorts of sweets were to be bad, and as the weather was extremely warm, you may be sure it was well patronised. Now I must try and rChiember w ho were present, and tell you about some of the frocks worn, for there were some very dainty toilettes. On Saturday all the final matches were played, and most exciting some of them were, specially the men’s doubles, when Messrs Hannan and Collins, of Christchurch, played against the Messrs Gore, and came off victorious after some very brilliant play. The final of the combined doubles also created great interest. Miss Greenfield and Mr Goldie just managed

to beat Miss Nunnely and Mr H. Parker, who, by the wav. were very heavily handicapped, and who gained on their opponents in a marvellous manner, and were playing splen didly. Miss Nunnely and Miss (Christchurch) met in the final of the Ladies' Championship Singles, and the former lady soon proved herself to be too strong for her opponent, who, how eter. made a plucky fight for it. The general opinion was that the final match between Mr J. R. Hooper (Auckland) and Mr H. Parker would be a very close game, so that it was rather dis%p pointing when Mr Hooper showed himself to be * out of form.' and unable to contest against Mr Parker's splendid and vigorous play. After the matches were over the prizes were presented by Mrs R. M. Simpson wife of the President of the Association, amid loud cheersand clapping.
