DUNEDIN.
Deak Bee, September 10. On Saturday the long-looked-for match between THE OTAGO REPS. AND CANTERBURY REPS. was played on the Caledonian Ground. Notwithstanding the bad weather between seven and eight thousand people assembled on the ground to witness it. Shortly after the match commenced Otago got a try. which was speedily converted into a goal, but before the end of the first spell Canterbury also succeeded in getting a try. but failed to convert it. At half-time the score was 5 to 3. thus showing how evenly the teams were matched. During the rest of the game the excitement was, of course, tremendous, but after a very hard fight. Otago managed to score 13 points, and Canterbury only 11. THE HUNT CLUB RACES were also held on the same day, but not being a fashionable meeting. and there being ot her attractions, the attendance was very limited indeed. On Monday evening the members of the Gentlemen’s‘Savage Club ’ gave a LADIES EVENING in St. Matthew's Schoolroom. The room and stage were hung with bunting, and tastefully decorated with wattle and gorse. Small tables with bright coloured drapery and vases of flowers
