TWO FOOTBALL GROUPS.

THE Auckland United Association Football Team were this year the winners of the exceedingly handsome Thompson shield, a trophy which may be seen in the group of the team which appears on another page. The United Club has an excellent record for the year, and would probably hold its own with many of the Southern Clubs. During the past season they played 9 matches, of which they won 7 and lost 2. The goals gained were 22, and those against 9. WANGANUI FOOTBALL REPS. Last month the Rugby football reps, of Wanganui visited Auckland and tried conclusions with the Auck land reps on August loth, and after an interesting game, the latter won by six points to three. All the scoring was done in the first spell, Whitley and Absolutn securing tries for Auckland, while Morton gained a try for Wanganui after a clever passing run. In the second spell the Aucklanders made repeated attackson the Wanganui line, but the strong defence of Beamish, Tilly, Cresswell, and W. McLean prevented the Aucklanders from increasing their score. < >ll their way home the Wanganui repsiuet the famous Taranaki team on August 1 It 11, and although the play in the first spell was of a fairly even character, the Taranaki reps scored at a fast tate in the second spell, and won by 29 points to nil. Mr T. R. Cresswell, who acted as captain and manager of the Wanganui team, is an ex-Canterbury representative.
