DUNEDIN.

Dear Bee. August 31. A great amount of excitement was felt in town on Friday afternoon when the WANGANUICOLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM played the Otago boys' High School. The day wtv- warm and bright, bit owing to it not being a holiday the onlookers were not so much in force as could be desired. < »ur visitors came off victorious. winning the match by 16 points to 8. On the evening of the same day Mrs Ritchie (Balvraid) gave a LARGE JI VENILK DANI E for the Wanganui boys. But one could hardly call it juvenile as some many grown-ups were present. The house looked most picturesque and gay, large pots of different (lowers and colours being placed all about both nail and room-*. Mrs Ritchie, who received her guests in the hall, looked very stylish in a black brocade trimmed with pale yellow and jet. Amongst the guests were Meddames Lintott, MacLaren, Aschmaker (Nelson). Pols of daffodils swathed with green crinkled paper also made a pretty centre pieci for the table. There seemed to be a superabundance of most delicious cakes, but OA-ing to the heat of the day I think that the fruit st) ads and passion fruit creams were more appreciated. rhe guests were entertained all afternoon with mu.-ie and recitations. Those who contributed songs were Mrs Kettle, Miss Lily Shand, and Miss Lily Roberts. Miss Minnie Branson, Miss Roberts, and Miss Irvine all played excellent pianoforte solos. A small play, entitled ‘ A Silent Drama.’ was acted by the Misses A. and M. Cargill, and the Misses R. and S. Webster. Miss M. Car gill also gave a splendid recitation.
