NEW PLYMOUTH.

Dear Bee, August 12. THE HAW ERA MUSICAL SOCIETY paid us a visit, when the comic operetta. * The Mikado,' was placed before a large and enthusiastic audience. Mr J. C. Hutchison as ‘Ko Ko* filled his part admirably, keeping the house in a constant state of laughter. He received several encores. In the song ‘ Titwillow ’ he fairly brought down the house, being recalled twice. Miss Knight, as ‘ Yum Yum. sang and acted with good etbect, and received much applause and several encores. Mr J. H. Rowe iNew Plymouth) successfully represented the character of Nanki Poo. the Wandering minstrel, his most successful effort being his part in the quartette, ‘The Flowers that Bloo.n in the Spring.’ Mr C. H. Warden acted successfully, taking the part of the scornful Pooh Bah to perfection. Mrs Parsons essayed a difficult character as Katisha, and deserves praise for the way in which she performed it. The other parts were taken by Miss R. Duckworth. Peep Bo; Miss A. Adamson. Pitti bing; Mr J. K. Moore, The Mikado; and Mr L. E. Mair. Pish Tush. The music was supplied by an orchestra conducted by Mr R. Foster, and led by Mr Jos. Higham. THE ‘STAR’ FOOTBALLERS’ SOCIAL in the Alexandra Hall, was an immense success, about four hundred people being present. A number of the ladies wore handsome dresses, black and gold (‘Star' colours) being the prevailing tints. The supper tables, groaning under a load of dainties, looked lovely. The decorations, consisting of the Club's colours, were very effective, wattle, ferns, and black paper being artistically intermingled. Enormous Japanese vases filled with the flower-* mentioned above forming the centre pieces. The ladies of the Committee worked hard, and certainly success crowned their efforts. The music, supplied by Mr Garry’s orchestra, left nothing to be desired. A p.easing ceremony performed during the evening was the presentation of a banner to the Club’s junior team. The speech in reply to the presentation was given by Mr A. Mclntyre, formerly captain of the team. The third CINDERELLA DANCE eventuated on Friday, and was even a greater success than the first. The night was cold and fine, the floor was much improved, and reri't and spirit characterised the whole of the proceedings. Mr Paul acted as M.C., and filled the position with bis usual ability. Next month the Tu Kapa social is to take place. I believe, and as we are sure to go, I will write and give you a full description. Mignonette.
