MR FINDLAY TO MISS SMITH. ON Thursday at St. Mark’s Church, Balclutha, an exceedingly pretty wedding was celebrated between Mr D. M. Findlay, solicitor, Palmerston South, and Miss Ada Smith, second daughter of Dr. Gibson Smith, Balclutha. The service was a choral one, and the church, which was beautifully decorated for the occasion, was packed to excess. The Rev. Canon Dodd performed the ceremony. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a handsome gown of cream embossed velvet lavishly trimmed with white fur. She carried a lovely shower bouquet of white chrysanthemums, Christmas roses, and maidenhair fern. Four bridesmaids attended her, namely, Miss Flo Smith, Miss E. Ulrich, Miss Alice Smith, and Miss Gwen Bishop. Miss Smith and Miss Ulrich wore stylish gowns of violet velvet, and large white beaver hats trimmed with white ostrich tips and white velvet. The two little bridesmaids wore violet velvet smocks, with yoke and sleeves of white silk, small velvet Tam-o’-shanters, with white feather tips at one side, completed their costumes. Mr McLeod, of Palmerston, acted as best man, and Mr Hugh Smith and Mr Cooper as groomsmen. The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a handsome curb chain bangle, with amythest hearts surmounted with pearls, also a brooch to match. The bridesmaids’ presents were unique wish-bone brooches with their names in pearls. Both the bride and bridegroom were the recipients of many handsome presents.

The bride’s mother wore a handsome gown of black velvet trimmed with jet passementerie, stylish little bonnet of bright red velvet with jet and black ospreys; Mrs Bishop, sister of the bride, becoming gown of sage green velvet, beautifully trimmed with jet fringes, dainty jet bonnet: Mrs Corliss, sister of the brinegroom, smart brown cloth prettily trimmed with gobelin blue corded silk and passementerie, small bonnet to match. Amongst the guests were Mr and Mrs Bishop, Mr and Mrs Pillans, Dr. and Mrs A. J. Ferguson (Dunedin, Mr and Mrs Corliss (Dunedin), Mr and Mrs Hutchins. Mr and Mrs Turnbull, Dr. and Mrs Mullin, Dr. and Mrs Fitzgerald (Kaitangata). Mr and Mrs Day, Mr and Mrs Thornhill, Canon and Miss Dodd, Mr Campbell (Invercargill). Jack Sale (Dunedin), R. Ferguson (Dunedin), and very many others. MR ARMSTRONG TO MISS BARCLAY. ST. Paul’s Pro-Cathedral, Wellington, was well filled with spectators when Mr C. E. Armstrong, of Palmerston North, was united to Miss — Barclay, second daughter of Captain W. de R. Barclay, of Wellington. The Bishop being away, the marriage service was read by the Rev. J. Coffey. Mr Parker played Mendelsson’s ‘ Wedding March ’ as the happy pair left the church. The bride looked exceedingly well in a very rich cream brocade figured with raised chrysanthemums, the yoke and sleeves of chiffon and lovely lace. Real orangeblossoms crowned the usual veil, and a beautiful bouquet completed the toilette.

The bridesmaids, who were respectively sisters of bride and groom, were tastefully dressed in wool batiste with Oriental looking stripes of pale gold, trimmings of violet velvet, and black velvet picture hats with violets finished the pretty costumes. The two other bridesmaids—the Misses Isabel and Ida Coleridge—were gowned in cream crepe delaine trimmed with broad pale gold satin ribbon.

After refreshments, partaken of by relations and guests at the residence of Captain De R. Barclay, Mr and Mrs Armstrong left for their honeymoon trip.
