PICTON.

Dear Bee, July 16. You wou'd smile if, being in possession of Fortunatus magic cap. you could transport yourself to Picton and look on day after day at us and the MERRY-GO-ROUND. most of us go to ride, but everybody, great and small, goes to look on. and the fascination seems to increase each day. The Syndicate have made a good thing of it, and the proprietors had yesterday for their own benefit. They have been so kind to the little children who were on the machine that all Picton turned out to give them a benefit. They intend to come back for the Championship Regatta. On Thursday evening a small but jolly SURPRISE PARTY waited on Mrs Allen in Broadway with a goodly array of baskets containing supper, and proceeded to enjoy themselves at progressive euchre. Counter-attractions accounted for the scarcity of men, but the home party fille > the blanks, and there was no lack of fun. Miss F Philpotts and Mr A. Scott took first prizes, Mr I. Seymour and Mbs M. Fell the bobbies. Others present were Mis.-es Allen (three), Mrs Sealy, Mrs Beauchamp. Misses Seymour (three), Greensill (two). Phillpotts (two), Carey (Blenheim), Gard, Linton, Millington, Western (two). Messrs Baillie (two), Seale, Riddle, Western, Scott, and Wytchel (Blenheim). THE ANNUAL MEETING OF PARISHIONERS, which took place the same evening in the Anglican Sunday-school room, was so sparsely attended that the incumbent proposed an adjournment to the Parsonage close by, and the meeting became a social gathering. Several young men took office on the vestry. Mrs Sedgwick and other ladies provided supper, and quite a pleasant time was spent, and several important business resolutions passed. VISITORS. Mr Stow, who succeeds Mr Fenwick in the Bank of New Zealand, arrived from Invercargill with his family on Friday last. Miss Waddy (Blenheim) is staying with Mrs (Dr.) Scott at Sea View. Miss Davisson (Nelson) is staying with the Misses Harris at Hill Side. Miss Isabel Seymour ha? returned from Marton, very glad to see the smiling Sound and sunny skies again. Mrs Rutherford has also returned, feeling better for her short visit, to the Empire City, which she has enjoyed immensely.

Jean.
