GORGE NEAR MOUNT GREY, NORTH CANTERBURY.

THE Mount Grey district, distant some twenty miles north-east of Rangiora, is a popular camping and picnicing ground for those who know of its beauty. The mountain is drained by pretty creeks, which have cut their way deep down into the clay soil, forming gorges, whose charm increases at every turn. It is a happy hunting ground to the camerists and artists who love small ‘ bits.’ Our engraving represents a typical gorge with Mr Vander Velden, the well-known Dutch artist, sketching in the foreground.
