BOWLING UNDER DIFFICULTIES.
WELLINGTONIANS are not easily beaten. It will be fresh in the memories of all those interested in bowling matters that the Easter Tournament at Wellington was nearly brought to a disastrous termination by heavy rain, but the directors of the Wellington Bowling Club, anxious that their visitors should be as little inconvenienced as possible by such untoward conditions, decided to adopt the suggestion of one of their number (Mr Thos. Ballinger) and try the novel expedient of playing that favourite game under cover. With this view they obtained permission to use the Volunteer Drill-shed, and themselves set to work to cover the floor with roofing felt which was accomplished in about two hours, and the tour nament was resumed under conditions which excited much enthusiasm amongst the bowlers, for when daylight failed the gas was turned on and play continued to a late hour. This is probably the first time that bowls have been played under such conditions. The photograph was taken by Mr Hardie Shaw, a well-known member ofthe Wellington Camera Club. Each of the competing clubs received an enlargement 27 x 20 of the photo here reproduced as a mouiento of the occasion.
