Dear Bee, March 21. Gal* weather fell to the lot of the hawke’s bay jockey club autumn meeting. and the natural result was a large attendance of the fair sex. The lawn was a trifle dry after the long spell of fine weather, but the graceful weeping willows, and the lake with it* stately habitnea the sw»ns. elicited many »okens of admiration. The greet race of the day. the Hawke’s Bay Cup. was carried off by Mr Dona’d McKinnon, th-* finish taking place amidst a hurricane of annlaure. Captain Russell, after a facetious speech, handed the imrodng trophy to his daughter. Mis* Russell, to present to the owner of Dreamland. Miss Ru«s*»ll wore an e’egant gown of pale cream silk with floral spr'gs. the bodice p’-ettily draped with lace, toque of yellow with white wings. Everyone brought hampers and it was delightful whilst satisfying the inner wants to listen to the dulcet strains of the City Band, which favoured us with some choice selections. I was not a favoured one. and consequently did not attend the dance, but hear it was a decided success, although the presence of more gentlemen would have improved things. Mr and Mrs Lovell, who have been with us for a year, return to England early next month. Miss Ringwond has arrived from Wellington to carry on the gymnastic teaching which her sister has so successfully inaugurated. Mrs A. H. Gore is visiting southern friends. Miss Tomlinson (Nelson) is staving with her aunt. Mrs Turnbull. Mrs Wm. Parker has returned from a trip to Gisborne.
