Dear Bee, March 13. There is nothing of interest going on in Nelson now. This last wee* seems to have been given up to swimmiag races. Both the colleges heid annual SWIMMING RACES last week. The boys’ came off on Thursday up the Mai tai River, when a great nuinner of friends assembled to witness their achievements ix tuis line. The championship was won by Stuckey, who sw *ui with bis usual style. Oa Saturday af ernooa the girls’ bathing sheds and river presented quite a gay scene on occasion of in«ir swim.ni'ig sports, the bathers looking most (picturesque in their co-iumes. T.ie Championship was won by Ivy Laery, who is a p etty a«» well as a fa«*t s Aiininer. The prizes were presented at the couc.uskn of the afternoon to the lucky winners by Mrs Mules the Presid nt of the club, but not before the gins hbd been refreshed with hot coffee, cakes, etc. There were agi eat number of ladies present. Among others I noticed Mrs Bunny. Mrs Mel.-op (Palmerston North) Mrs Robinson, Mrs Mackay. Misses Fell (twoi. Browning. Boor, Gibson. Gribben, Catley, Watt. Higgins. Atkinson, Biackeit, Mrs A. Glasgow. O.livivr. Miss Burnett and many more. On Tuesday evening a very enjoyable ORGAN RECITAL was given in the Wesleyan Church in entertainment to the membeis of the Conference, who are s ill in kelson. Miss Melhuish presided at the organ, and besides pl tying all the accompaniments. readeioi as a solo Mendelssohns sixth sonata, of which too much cannot be said in piaise. Herr Balling, as usual, charmed ail by his viola aita playing. O i this occasion he played Spohr's recitative and And tnte exqui.-u ely. Mr Kidson also sang in his usual finished siy\e. Miss Hunt our latest debutante as a songstress, sang magnificently, her full and rich contralto notes rilling the whole building, the church was packed, and it was difficult to see who among the many you knew. Bat [ did see a few peopie I cou d recognise, among ihem being Miss Hudd.eston. Misses Pitt (twoi. Miss Fowler tMiStertoni, Miss Catiey, Miss Giibben, Miss Gibbs, Mrs Pitt. Miss Porter. Mrs Sealy, Misses Fell (two), etc. OCR PEOPLE. Mrs Richmond has given her pretty residence, ‘ The Cliffs/ up to the charge of a caretaker, and has gone to visit her daughter in Dunedin, Mrs Kwsling. Miss Browning has also gone South, her destination being Christchurch. Mrs Jack Oldham is staying with her people at ‘ Werneth. Miss Alice O.dhtm is to be married to-morrow to Mr Hairis. of Pelorus Scuud. but as it is at their own little country church, and ony the family are invited, no one else knows at what time the ceremony is to take place. Mrs Fell is in Wellington for a little change.
