NAPIER.

Dear Bee, February 21. Waipawa and Waipukarau people have been very gay during the last week, the

POLO MATCH between Takapau and Rangitikei being a most interesting fixture, and was held at * Ashcott,’ the residence of Mr J. Bayley A’Deane. who with his sisters entertained the visitors thoroughly. A large ball at ‘ Woburn.’ the beautiful residence of Mrs Montgomery. was also a feature of the week, guests from all parts of the district being invited. There were some lovely gowns worn, the hostess wearing an elegant white silk with sea green: the Misses Johnston, lovely white costumes; Miss Watt, an ideal white satin frock with pearl embroidery and chiffon: Mrs Riddi ford, the Misses Herrick, Miller, Price. Mrs Gordon, Mrs Burnes. Mrs Russell. Mrs Gaisford. etc. The following day all met at a tennis gathering given by Mrs Sidney Johnston. At Napier great interest has been taken in the ANNUAL OPEN TENNIS TOURNAMENT held on the pretty lawn in the township. The entries were very large, and new players have come to the fore. Afternoon tea and delicious cakes were provided each day. and the general arrangements were well carried out under Mr A. K. Howard’s able directions. On Friday all the tennis enthusiasts assembled at the Town Hall for a dance. Mrs J. B. Rhodes, Mrs Carlyon. Misses Lowry, Miller, Watt, Johnston, Inglis. A’Deane, Russell, Bostock, Williams. Messrs Berney, White, Loughnan. Dinwiddie, A’Deane Rhodes, Bridge, Ormond. Drs. Godfray and Reid, Messrs Howard, Rathbone. Guy Russell, and H. Butts, etc., were present. Upwards of 1,300 children arrived in town on Saturday afternoon in connection with the special excursion arrangements which had been made. Two bands accompanied the youngsters, one from Danevirke and the other from Waipawa. and the City Band enlivened the proceedings by rendering selections on the Esplanade, where sea-bathing was in great force. JOTTINGS. Mr and Mrs Hubert Morton, who have been residing at Amberley of late, are now living in Napier. Mrs W. D. Lysnar. of Gisborne, is in town, and looks well in a pretty white costume. Mrs and Miss Begg are visiting Dunedin friends. Mr and Mrs Bridges have gone to Taupo and Auckland for a holiday. Mrs H. B. Lusk has arrived from Gisborne. The Hon. W. Cadman is in Napier, and has put up at the Criterion Hotel. Mrs Blythe and family have been spending a holiday in the bush districts, but have returned to town.
