Dear Bee, January 22. The weather to-day for the RACES AT THE HUTT PARK COURSE was simply perfect. There were more people present than I have ever yet seen. The grand stand and lawn looks so bright and pretty with all the gay costun es. The Countess of Glasgow and Lady Augusta Boyle, attended by Captain Clayton, were met at the front entrance by Mr Edward Pearce (vice-president), and Miss Pearce, the President (Mr H. D. Bell) being absent from Wellington. Lord Glasgow was not able to be present, owing to his recent illness. Lady Glasgow wore a pretty mauve and fawn shot silk dress trimmed with coffee-coloured lace, fawn bonnet with green gauze wings and yellow wattle ; Lady Augusta Boyle, a pretty white dress trimmed with rosettes of white baby ribbon, large Leghorn hat with white ribbon bows; Miss Pearce, fawn dress, the bodice being pink silk covered with coffee lace, fawn and pink bonnet; Lady Abbott (Australia), black silk, gold bonnet with flowers; Mrs C. Williams, white muslin with flounces of white lace edged with baby ribbon, lace hat with roses; Miss Bennett <Rangatiki», grey check gown, large black hat with blue ribbon bow and pink roses; the Misses Johnston, cream chiffon gowns trimmed very much with lace, black hats with pink and red roses; the Misses Gore, cream muslin gowns, cream lace hats with flowers; Miss L. Miss Younge, fawn frock, cream hat with feathers. THE CUP was won by Mahaki, owned by Mr H. Te Kani Pere. Lady Glasgow, after making a neat little speech, presented the cup amidst treat cheers. Mr Pearce entertained Lady Glasgow and a numer of his friends at luncheon and afternoon tea in a marquee erected for the purpose. COMING FESTIVITIES. The reception which was to have been held at Government House on Friday last was postponed, and is now to be on Thursday night. Mrs J. P. Maxwell is having an afternoon tea to-day. There is also an afternoon tea on the S.S. Rimutaka this afternoon. Mrs Tuckey gave an afternoon tea on Thursday as a farewell to her daughter Bessie, who is to be married to Mr Henry Hadfield on Thursday. Among those present were Mrs and Miss Seed, Mrs and Miss Milward Mrs and Miss Anderson, Miss Holmes. Mrs Werry, Mrs Samuels, Mrs Griffiths. Miss Blair, etc. Mrs Rhodes gave an afternoon tea on Saturday. Among those S resent were Mrs and the Misses Johnston, Mr and Miss Pearce, Irs W. Moorhouse, Mrs Buck, Miss Moorhouse, Mr (Dr.) Adams and others. The same day Mrs A. Crawford entertained a number of her riends at afternoon tea at * Mammas.’
