DUNEDIN.

Dear Bee, January 12. On Wednesday the ROYAL COMIC OPERA COMPANY ended their season in Dunedin with a charming and witty opera. ‘ The Vicar of Bray. After the play a splendid concert was given by the leading members of the Company, and a most enjoyable evening was concluded with the beautiful, world-renowned rainbow ballet, danced by some of the royal ballerinas. The house was very full, and the audience a most appreciative one. Both actors and actresses received a large number of bouquets. The four leading ladies were the recipients of beautiful bouquets from the officers of H.M.S. Royalist, who were all present at the Company’s invitation. A few of the people 1 noticed present were Mesdames Mills, Sinclair. Thomson, Cohen, Stephenson, Jowitt, Sargood, Lintoil, Bell (Wellington!. Ulrich. Graham, the Misses Mills, Gibson, Reynolds, Webster, Stephenson, etc. On the same evening Mrs Mac Lean, Royal Terrace, gave a small but VERY ENJOYABLE MUSICALE. Songs were contributed by Miss Mac Lean, Miss Edith Farquhar. Messrs Mac Lean, Gully, Pascoe, Tapley. Among the guests were Misses Farquhar, Reynolds, Stephenson, Prosser (Sydney), Mackerras, Modie, Scott, Macassey, Messrs Gully. Pascoe, Harris, Tapley, Menlove, Cheeseman, Williams, Boddington, Sleigh, Broad. On Thursday a great number of people left Dunedin by the Tarawera for the FIRST SOUNDS TRIP. There were not so many Dunedin people as usual, but strangers from all parts of the world seemed to be going. On Friday afternoon the officers of H.M.S. Royalist invited a number of ladies and gentlemen to see the ship and have afternoon tea. The table for the latter refreshment was nicely arranged with bright-coloured dahlias and delicious sweets of all kinds. Music and songs were given in the captain’s cabin, which was beautifully arranged with pot plants of all kinds. Those 6 resent were Mrs Webster, in black satin cape, small black onnet; Mrs Gibson, stylish brocaded mantle, neat gold bonnet; Mrs Graham, handsome black lace mantle, black bonnet trimmed with grey; Miss Gibson, black skirt and jacket, fawn waistcoat, floral toque; Miss Williams, blue serge costume, black flower hat: Miss Reynolds, black satin, with trimmings of green velvet, black velvet hat with feathers; Miss Webster, green corduroy cloth trimmed with chiffon: Miss G. Webster, brown serge costume, pink vest, black hat with pink ; Miss Sise, electric blue canvas cloth ; Miss Batchelor, fawn and pink costume; Miss Graham, shot tweed with blue silk trimming, black hat. white marguerites: Miss Henry (Wellington), black dress, white silk vest: Miss Roberts, black and white checked tweed, tiny jet bonnet; Miss A. Roberts, black serge white hat with green trimming; Miss Chapman, clack and white tweed with trimmings of green passementerie on the bodice, black lace nat. The officers who received were Messrs Smith, Campion, Roll, Reeves, Dr. Beattie. On the evening of the same day, Mrs Wright, Bishopscourt, gave a large ENJOYABLE DANCE for the daughter of Mrs Buckland (Hobart), who is staying with her. The house looked lovely with bowls of tiger lilies, pot plants, etc., all about the rooms. The supper room was gay with quantities of scarlet geraniums, not only on the table but all about the room. Our hostess was in black silk with white trimmings ; Miss Buckland, white satin with trimmings of white chiffon and passementerie ; Mrs Graham, black brocade jacket; Mrs Wright, silver brocade; Mrs Jowitt, pink silk ; Mrs Sargood, grey and pink silk; Mrs Hoskins, white brocade; Mrs Macgowan. white silk; Mrs Wilfred (Wellington), pale blue brocade; Mrs Eardley Reynolds, white satin, yellow trimmings ; Mrs Leslie Reynolds, green satin, rose pink velvet trimmings; Mrs Finder, white silk ; Miss Royse, pink crOpon with pink ribbon and Limerick lace; Miss Wright, grey silk, silver passementerie; Miss Reynolds, deep red silk ; Miss Maccasy, black merveilleux, bodice covered with jet: Miss Webster, yellow brocade: Miss — Webster, heliotrope satin; Miss Roberts, yellow and heliotrope silk; Miss Sise. pink with black chiffon trimming: Miss Gibson, green silk and pink ; Miss Shand, pale green silk trimmed with green passementerie; Miss — Shand, white brocade ; Miss Graham, black satin; MissC. Graham, white nun’s veiling with pink trimmings; Miss Williams, sage green and pink silk trimmings ; Miss Cutten, pale blue satin ; Miss Hagge X, grey bengaline silk ; Miss Batchelor, white silk ; Miss Bartleman, white silk.
