NAPIER.

Dear Bee, November 18. THE NEW ROMAN CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL, ‘ St. Patrick s,’ was opened on Sunday. The music was especially good, Haydn’s First Mass being chosen. There was a full choir and orchestra. An ‘Ave Maria’ was beautifully sung by the Misses Bowes and St. Clair, and Messrs J. B. Loughnan and A. P. Sheath. The offertories during the day amounted to over £2OO. The NAPIER LIEDERTAFEL gave their second concert on Thursday evening. Their part songs were beautifully done, while Mr Maughan Barnett’s piano solo in itself was worth going a long way to hear. Mr A. J. Chamberlain, one of the survivors of the Wairarapa, and who is well known throughout New Zealand, sang, ‘ If With All Your Hearts’ in the Napier Cathedral on Sunday evening with excellent taste. There was a large congregation present in spite of it being a very wet night. JOTTINGS ABOUT OUR PEOPLE. Mr and Mrs J. Close and Mr and Mrs J. McVay have returned from Christchurch. Mrs C. R.
