LATE WELLINGTON NEWS.

Tub second annual entertainment in connection withand in aid ol the Wellington Hoys' Institute took place in the Opera House on Monday, under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency the Governor, who has all along shown a warm interest in the success and advancement of this very deserving Institution. Lady Glasgow and a party from Government House were also present. The attendance On the whole, however, constituted but a moderate house. The programme was a varied one. consisting of selections by the Garrison Band. Boys’ Brigade Band, violin solos, songs, and recitations by well-known local amateurs and others. Gymnastic physical drill anil bayonet exercises, etc., etc., were also gone through. The Institution is doing very valuable work, and is deserving of heariy support. The OPENING OF THOKNIION LAWN TENNIS CLUB on Saturday afternoon was favoured with lovely weather, tho courts looking beautiful and in perfect order. Afternoon tea was supplied by the ladies. A large number of members and visitors were present, and some good play took place. Among those present were Mesdames Barron, Fulton. Hudson, Misses llarron. Pike, Campbell. Friend. O'Connor. Kebboll, Trimnell, Butt, Gore. Malcolm, Hardy, Koom, Kennedy, Elliott, and Fairchild. THE AMATEUR THEATRICALS on Saturday evening in the Art Gallery were in aid of the Academy Building Fund. In the first act. 'The Boots at the Swan,' Mrs Fell, Mrs Wilford. Miss Cooper, and Messrs Day. Izard. Hadfield, and Leighton took part. Mrs Fell and Mr Day acted splendidly, especially the latter, and together they really made the piece what it was. as the other parts were poorly filled. The second niece. ‘My Uncle's Will,’ was excellent. It could hardly have boon better indeed, and was acted by Miss Alice Grace, and Messrs Hadfield and A. Newton. Some dresses worn by the ladicsi taking part were:—Mrs Fell, old-fashioned pale green Empire gown ; Mrs Wilford. housemaid's dress; Miss Cooper, cream ; Miss Grace, pretty black satin gown trimmed with pink roses, pink roses in her hair.
