Dear Bee, October 7. The HAWKE’S BAY JOCKEY CLUB RACE MEETING was, as usual, a fashionable gathering. being attended by all the bon ton of the district. A few visitors from other parts of New Zealand were also present., among them being Captain and Mrs Stewart. Mr E. O’Rorke, Mr Watson (Gisborne), and Miss Wilkins (Auckland). THE DRESSES were for the most part tweeds, the weather being not of the finest, description. Mrs Stewart wore a neat grey dress and black hat: Mrs W. J. Williams, a handsome black gown with mantle bordered with black fur. small jet bonnet; her two daughters wore handsome dresses of heliotrope silk relieved with bows of velvet of a darker shade, tuscan straw hats with pink blush roses: Mrs (Captain) Russell, black and yellow: Miss Russell, neat navy serge: Mi«s Cara. Russell, brown with blue; Mrs Ormond, black silk ; Miss Ormond, pink and green : Miss Ada Ormond, electric blue crepon with black moire waistcoat, black hat; MrsG. Morris, a tasteful costume of black and white checked silk with big moire sash, and white felt hat with black trimming: Mrs F. Logan, black tailor tweed with smart little bonnet of black moire: Mrs N. Kettle, black tweed, blank and white hat: Mrs Arthur Gore, pale blue with chic hat of electric and black; Mrs Montgomery, grey tweed w’ith passementerie: Mrs Fairfax Fenwick, pink crepon with zouave of pink s ; lk. picture hat of white velvet and feathers : Miss Wilkins (Auckland), white niansook. with picture hat; Miss D. Heyward (Wellington), was gowned in a tasteful costume of roval blue serge, and brown hat en suite : Mias Raker, crushed strawberry erdnon with velvet of a darker shade, black hat with feathers : Mrs Recd. nayv serge ; Mrs Gilbertson, black and white ; Mrs Bendall. black with moire : Miss Rhodes, white crepon with gold braid : Miss Locke, was gowned in a similar style; Mrs Luckie wore a very handsome gown of black figured silk: her daughter wore grey ; Mrs Tyerman. a tasteful dark costume: Mrs Danvers, black and white; Mrs Shrimpton. black and white velvet; the Misses Hitchings. white drills with black ties and belts: Miss B. Johnson, neat tweed, chic sailor hat: Miss Inglis, a costume similar; Mrs Frank Gordon, white serge, chic sailor hat. Miss Cara Russell placed the blue ribbon round the winner of the Guineas after a neat little speech from Captain Russell. THE ANNUAL CRICKETERS’ BALL was fashionablv attended, and was successful in every way, owing a great, deal to the efforts of the popular secretary. Mr Heathcote Williams, who for many years has done a great deal towards encouraging this favourite pastime. The dresses were unusually handsome Miss Bee Lascelles was gowned in red silk; Miss Rudman, white and red: Miss Sheath, white silk: the Misses Cotterill (2), black; Miss Marden. white with pale blue velvet, sleeves; Miss Emily Marden was admired in pale pink ; Mrs N. Kettle, pale green silk: Mrs F. Logan, yellow silk ; Miss Fulton, black and cardinal; Miss Hilda Fulton looked pretty in pure white: Mrs Smith (Palmerston) wore yellow silk; Mrs George Marshall (Christchurch), black with pale blue satin sleeves ; Miss Glendinning. handsome nink silk ; Miss Dora Heyward (Wellington). black satin with chiffon front and long sleeves : Mrs A. Kennedy, black and pink ; Miss Kennedv. white silk : Miss Newton, black and cream ; the Misses Gertrude and Elsie Williams, black silk with c-eam chiffon. Miss Williams played an acceptable extra. A renovation was made in Placing the orchestra in the centre of the room on a raised dais. Amongst the gentlemen were Messrs Studholme. Guy Cooner. A’Dean. Beckett. Roberts. Kellv. Parker.
