HASTINGS.

Dear Bee, October 1. The sports given by THE HUNT CLUB, which were postponed till last Wednesday, actually did come off, and no rain descended all the afternoon. There was a fairly large attendance both inside andoutside the ground, those who preferred seeing without paying being able to do S 3, as the course is Quite close to the road. On the whole the sports were a trine dull, there being such long intervals. The tandem race was an extremely pretty one, and the ‘back to front’ one, where the rider took a different view of the course to the horse, was very amusing. A number of Napier people came out by the 1.35 train. The dresses were rather sombre, as ladies cannot don light costumes in this stormy weather. 1 noticed among others Mrs J. Rhodes, black cloth much trimmed with braid, long basque bodice, black hat with feathers; Miss Todhunter. black serge, cherry-coloured silk vest, black hat; Miss Berkely, dark blue and black diagonal trimmed with black jet. blue straw hat; Miss E. Williams, black dress, with red waistcoat: Mrs Crosse, fawn gown trimmed with brown velvet, blue silk vest; Miss Barker, black with zouave jacket over a green silk blouse. Miss Anderson, jacket and skirt of mousecoloured covert coating, white vest, small straw, hat to match; Miss Beamish, costume of green trimmed with silk of a lighter tone; Miss M. Lowry, fawn gown with brown velvet bands up the skirt, large triple cape to match: Miss Nelson, black with coral coloured waistcoast, black hat with coral bow; I noticed one smart costume in light brown, made with jacket and skirt, white cloth waistcoat, large brown straw hat with feathers, brown shoes and gloves; Mrs Philson, brown heather mixture gown, large hat with red velvet and jet.

Dolly.
