Dear Bee, September 11. During Mrs Allen’s absence from Picton a mild attempt was made to astonish Miss Nora Allen’s weak nerves by a visitation of PROGRESSIVE EUCHRE PLAYERS, chaperoned by Mrs H. C. Seymour. The impromptu hostess rose to the occasion, and according to all accounts a lovely—and lively—evening was spent, the first prizes falling to Miss Millington and Mr Fox, and the boobies to Miss Mary Seymour and Mr W. Baillie. Miss Nina Greensill gave A JUVENILE DANCE at Brooklyn, the privileged individuals being the Misses Rosamund, and Lily Greensill, Grace, and Belle Allen, Morna Fell, Emily Philpotts, Marion McLean, Eva Western, and Masters Anthony and Gerald Fell, McShane (two). Scott, and sevaral grown up young people, as well as the Misses Greensill (two), who helped the young hostess to amuse the younger ones, the Misses K. Howard. Nora and Nellie Allen, and Messrs Fox. Baillie (tw’o), Greensill (two', Western and C. Philpotts being the grown-ups. Supper was laid out in the hall, and everybody enjoyed themselves heartily. ABOUT PEOPLE. Mrs Waddy and family left for Blenheim last Wednesday. Several old friends saw them off by train, and much regret was expressed on both sides at the necessity of parting. The Rev. Mr Sedgwick and Mrs Sedgwick are spending a week or two in Blenheim, their place in Picton being filled pro tcm. by the Rev. Ernest and Mrs Ensor. A jolly little afternoon tea was given by Mrs and Miss Scott to Miss Allen (Wellington) and Miss Dobson (Blenheim) on Monday afternoon at ‘Seaview.’ the other guests being Mrs Andrews, Miss Duncan, Miss May Greensill, Miss Nora Allen, etc. Monday was quite a gay and festive occasion for the young people, Mrs Rutherford giving a very delightful PROGRESSIVE EUCHRE PARTY at her residence in Nelson Square. No one ever seems to tire of t hese merry-go-round entertainments, and the last one is always the jolliest and best. Miss Nora Allen and Mr T. Baillie were the lucky winners of the first prizes. Miss K. Seymour and Miss Mellish—who is on a visit to Mrs Speed—taking the ‘boobies.' Among those present were Mrs Rutherford, in terra-cotta silk and cream lace ; Mrs Howard (Blenheim), in dark skirt and coral pink silk blouse ; Mrs H. C. Seymour, fashionably made dark costume ; Miss Mellish. dark skirt, and pink silk blouse; Miss Duncan, cream cashmere with lace frills ; Miss Fell, red frock with black lace : Miss Mildred Fell, pale blue ; Miss Mary Seymour, brown skirt and pink blouse; Miss K. Seymour, cardinal striped silk frock ; Miss Nora Allen, navy skirt with pink blouse : Miss Speed, dark skirt, and cardinal blouse ; Miss May Greensill, dark costume, made with a long open jacket, and vest of cream muslin and embroidery ; Miss A. Scott, black skirt and pink blouse: Mias Ethel Greensiil. green skirt, and pretty muslin bodice trimmed with bows of cream satin ribbon ; Miss Nora Kenny, fawn and black costume ; Miss Evelyn Linton, dark skirt and cream blouse ; Mrs McNab, handsome black broch£ gown. The gentlemen were Messrs Rutherford. H. Seymour. Fenwick, Harper (Christchurch), Andrews. J. Duncan. J. Greensill, Fox. and Baillie (two). On Tuesday evening the Misses Greensill invited their youthful compatriots to A DANCE. which, as usual, was a great success, the young people heartily enjoying themselves. A little maiden from Wellington—Miss G. Martin gave one or two specimens of the skirt dances now so fashionable. Needless to say, they were prettily and gracefully performed A capital charade (portmanteau) was acted by Miss Howard. Miss Flo. Western. Miss Nina Greensiil, Messrs S. C. Allen and Fox. and some delightful selections of music rendered by Miss May < Ireensill and Mr C. White. AU sortsof dances were danced, from the Kangaroo dance to a Scotch reel. Those present, were Miss Nora Kenny in fawn; Miss Duncan, black skirt and pale blue silk blouse with black lace; Miss Dobson (Blenheim), green skirt and white muslin bodice: Miss Allen, black lace and gold frills and ribbons; Miss Evelyn Lint-on, cream striped delaine; Miss Millington, red skirt, and Swiss belt over white bodice ; Miss Mary Seymour, brown skirt and pink bodice: Miss K. Seymour, red frock; Miss Isabel Seymour, pretty flowered delaine frock ; Mias Nora Allen, red lustre Empire frock ; Miss Nellie Allen, red skirt and whito bodice ; Miss Flo Western, black skirt and white bodice; Mias White, black: Miss Fell, red; Mias Mildred Fell, pale blue; Mias Mirrie Philpotts, black skirt and white bodice; Miss Ruth Mclntyre, fawn frock ; Mias G.
