WANGANUI.

Dear Bee, July 25. As Wanganui has been very gay this week I think it a good opportunity of claiming a column in your paper. Last Thursday evening Mrs Stevenson gave A LARGE EUCHRE PARTY. Among those present were Mesdames Greenwood. Gossett. Anderson. Peake, Jones, Oldham, Haywood, and Misses Hill, Ward (two), Anderson, Hould, Watt (two). Scott (New Plymouth), and Messrs Stack, Cooper. Haywood. Ward. Gossett, and many others ; Miss Scotland Mr Haywood being the fortunate winners. On Friday the event of the year took place— THE CAVALRY BALL. It was held in the Drill-shed, which was beautifully decorated with ferns and flags, the stage being reserved for non-dancers. The floor was in good trim, but the music might have been bet ter. The supper was all that could be desired, and was done ample justice to by all. The programme consisted of twenty-four dances and three extras, bringing the ball to a close at about four o’clock. Many of the dresses worn by the ladies were very handsome. Mrs James Watts looked well in cream brocaded satin; Mrs Parsons, royal blue velvet; Mrs Brooke, pink and white; Mrs Empson. black silk; Mrs Fitzmaurice looked her best in black; Mrs Chavannes, green velvet; Mrs Bull, pink satin: Mrs Aiken, black and white: Mrs Holl and Mrs Anderson. heliotrope; Mrs Jones, blue watered silk; Mrs Kellick, in her wedding dress of white watered silk. Misses Anderson, McNeil and Liftiton made their debut in pure white ; Miss May Durie, in a pretty dress of white brocaded silk and pink roses, took the cake : Miss Dean Higgielooked well in light green velvet, as also did Miss Clarke in cream satin; Miss K. Brabant, cream and gold : Miss Newman, black and gold ; Miss C. Brewer, sea green; Miss A. Watt, maize and green; Miss A. Higgie, white satin: Miss Roddy, pink ; Miss Durie (two), green velvet; Miss Robinson, white and red; Miss Lockett, pink and black: Miss Hair, black; Miss McDonnell, orange and violet: Miss Warming ton, black; Miss Ward (two), white; Miss Deighton (Marton), blue ; Miss Ross, green ; Miss Anderson, blue ; and many others whose names I did not know.
