SOCIETY PORTRAITS. MRS GORING, OF AUCKLAND. THE series of portraits of society ladies which it is our intention to publish from time to time in the Graphic', could scarcely have been more fitly inaugurated than with the picture given this week of Mrs Goring, of Auckland. The wife of Colonel Goring, of Fort Cantley, Mrs Goring is one of the most distinguished-looking and best known leaders of northern society. At all smart society functions she is sure to be present, and during the stay of the various vice-regalities who visit Auckland is invariably almost a member of the Government House party. Mrs Goring is possessed of a very considerable amount of literary ability, and her articles on a trip to the South Sea Islands, published about a couple of years ago, were remarkable for their descriptive power and brightness of style. The portrait from which the picture is reproduced is one of the productions of Wrigglesworth and Binns’ new Auckland studio. It is certainly an admirable likeness, and the posing is original, artistic, and effective. This firin have promised us a series of society portraits, and another picture from their Auckland studio will appear in next week's issue.

SKETCHES IN THE NORTH. A series of views of the Bev of Islands and northern coast of New Zealand, drawn by Mr Kerry, show what beautiful scenery many tourists miss who neglect this part of the North Island. The Waitangi Falls and the picturesque surroundings make Russell and the vicinity well worthy of a holiday jaunt. TWO VIEWS OF CHRISTCHURCH. Two effective drawings are given of picturesque scenes in the Gardens, Christchurch. The views selected give an excellent idea of the many beautiful spots in the carefullytended Public Gardens of the City of the Plains.
