A PORTFOLIO.
I think some hints for presents will be sure to be appreciated, so I give a sketch of a drawing room portfolio—a most useful as well as ornamental possession—for one seems to be always accumulating sketches and pictures hardly good enough to frame, and yet too good to be thrown away. It is very easy to get the easel from any of the shops that keep white wood articles for painting ; this
should then be carefully covered with velveteen (ordinary velveteen of the cheapest description answers the purpose quite as well as any other kind), then furniture braid edged with narrow fluffy fringe is wound round and round, and the more multi coloured it is the better the effect pro-
duced. Individual taste can be used regarding the plaque in the centre of the portfolio itself—embroidery brocade, a china painting, a photograph all being equally suitable for the purpose, and pretty moire ribbons should be used to tie it together.
