PICTON.

Dear Bek. December 21. The children's party Ki ven by Mr and Mrs Rutherford takes precedence this week* and. needless to say, it was an unqualified success The draw-ing-room was dismantled for the* occasion, and. as the rain prevented them having their tea outside, they picnicked on the floor and enjoyed it as something new. Among the children, which term includes all ages, were the Misses Seely (two). Philpotts (two), White (t wo). Greensill (two). Linton (two), Seely <Nelson). Allen (two), Seymour (two), Waddy (three). Godfrey, Fell. Jackson. McNab. Mapp. Fitzgerald. Andrews (two). Gudgeon, Masters Scott, Waddy. Fell. Greensill. Gudgeon. Seely, etc. The Misses Jean. Isabel, and Gretchen Rutherford’s party will be remembered for some time to come. PROGRESSIVE EUCHRE has ‘froze’ on here, and is quite likely to become the rage. A most enjoyable party was that at Mrs H. C. Seymour’s on Monday evening, and others I hear are to follow, so that our small dissipations are likely to be of very frequent occurrence. THE BACHELORS’ PICNIC at Laughing Bob's Bay was muchly enjoyed by us all, especially the boot race for the bachelors, which was started by the ladies. To do them—the bachelors—justice, they did not seem to mind how much we laughed at them, and we laughed heartily at the whole proceeding, which is a most comical affair. Messrs Fox Allen. W. Baillie, T. Baillie, Waddy, A. Western, W. Western. Hood, and Bendall were the promoters of the picnic, and Mesdames IL C. Seymour, Allen, Waddy. Andrews, the Misses Waddy (two). Howard. Allen. H. C. Seymour (four), Philpotts (three). Hay. Fell (two), Redwood. Speed (two. A. P. Seymour, Thompson, Raynor (B’enheim). White. Greensill (two). Duncan, Linton (two). Western (four). Millington, Scott, and Messrs Rutherford, Andrews, Rawle. Burre, and Dr. Millington. EELING BY TORCHLIGHT is the latest fun going on in Picton. and eels for breakfast are the result—for those who like wriggling reptiles. The creatures are caught by the dozen in the creeks at the Elevation and Mount Pleasant. our visitors are arriving fast. Mr and Mrs Lucas and family, of Blenheim, are spending a week or so with Mrs Beauchamp at the Grove. Mrs George Robinson is staying with Mrs McNab. Nelson Square. Colonel McDonnel’s famiy are over from Wellington, and many other visitors have just arrived, or are arriving. The Tarawera—weather permitting-is to come across the straits on Boxing Day with excursionists to picnic under the trees in the shady streets, or to go by train to spend half-an-hour in Blenheim, and get all they possibly can out of the day. With compliments of the season to all the Graphic staff and yourself.

Jean.
