HASTINGS.
Dear Bee, December 14. We are still doing all we can for the sufferers by THE FLOODS. Meetingshave been held, and committees formed, who will take steps to relieve them. Subscriptions are still coming m freely from all parts of Hawke's Bay. also, I see. from Christchurch and Wellington. Clive presents a miserable appearance, there being mud still in most of the houses while everywhere bedding, furniture and clothes are out in the street drying. lam sorry to say that Mr Lascelles' lovely garden has suffered considerably; also the furniture, carpets, etc-, as 1 believe there was fully three feet of water in the house, and as it came with a rush, there was no time to save anything. Mrs Gore's house, and also Lady Whitmores, escaped. They stood high and dry. though with w*ater all round. OCR PEOPLE. Mrs Norman Beet ha in is staying with Mrs Ernest Tanner. Miss Mellish is now on a visit to Mrs George Beamish. After the breaking-up of the Heretaunga School Messrs J. A. Fraser and Robinson will go South for a well-earned holiday. The school grounds are in perfect order, and I ain sure will delight the eye of visitors on the day of the breaking-up. I believe sports are to be held the day before. '1 he boys look tit and well, especially the boarders, of whom there are a goodly numbersome twenty-two or three—several of whom an? quite youths. A children's party to be given by Mrs Wellwood, in the grounds of the house just vacated by Mr and Mrs Crosse, is on the tapis and the little ones are looking forward with great glee to the event. Mr and Mrs Crosse have removed to their tine new resi dence at Riverslea.
Dolly.
