WELLINGTON.

Dear Bee, November 10. Next week I hope to have a more interesting budget of news, for we shall have the Show at. Petone, which is always a very large gathering ; a large ball, which is to be given at the Hutt by several ladies who reside there—Mesdames Riddiford. Seales. Treadwell. Beattie, Jackson. Whitehead, Wilford, Purdy, Fitzherbert, and Lady Hector—on Show night: the Flower Show, a Chamber Concert, and the Palmer-Beaumont concerts, so that our dull time is over for a while. BLAND HOLT AND COMPANY have just finished a most successful season. ‘A Million of Money’ seems to have taken better than anything else, the scenery and general stage managing in this being the admiration of all. As soon as the Palmer-Beaumont. Company leave. Miss Myra Kemble opens at the Theatre Royal in her comedy. ’A White Lie,’ which is said to be very good. Miss Kemble and Mr Sass taking the leading pirts. You will be sorry to hear that Mr and Mrs Tudor Atkinson have been BURNT OUT. Some few months ago they moved from Wadcstown to a new house in Wright-street. and this was a few days ago burnt to the ground while the whole household was out. Much sympathy is felt for them, for Mrs Atkinson has lost all her beautiful wedding presents, among which were some valuable pictures painted by her father, and many other things which can never be replaced. I believe there was absolutely nothing saved, and Mr and Mrs Atkinson and family are now staying with their relatives until some arrangements can be made. The weather on THE PRINCE OF WALES’ BIRTHDAY was most disagreeable—a strong northerly wind was blowing all day long, so that, although fine, it was hardly the day for excursions, picnics, etc. However, in spite of the wind, large numbers of people went into the country or else visited the Basin Reserve, where the sports took place. Mr and Mrs George Beetham, and Mr and Mrs Comber, of Petone, leave for England by the next direct boat. The Horticultural and Florists’ Society have arranged a ladies' committee for the coming Spring Show, the ladies having undertaken the refreshment and flower stalls. The show of roses this year is expected to be very large—that is, if the weather continues mild until the show. Ophelia. Letters from Nelson, Picton, Napier, and Oamaru are unavoidably held over.
