SHEEP SHEARING IN THE OPEN.
(SEE ILLUSTRATION PAGE 364.)
"TTT E give a very interesting and picturesque picture of y y sheep-shearing in the open reproduced from one of Mr Martin’s happiest efforts. This gentleman is without doubt one of the most artistic landscape photographers in Australasia, and his pictures have won enormous popularity. They invariably bring out the special characteristics of the view, making the picture at once attractive and interesting. Sheep shearing in the open is now confined to bush farms, such as the one where this view was taken on the Great Barrier Island. It looks much more agreeable than shearing in a shed, but it has its disadvantages, and as soon as it is possible or convenient a shed is run up for the purpose.
