NAPIER.

(Delayed ), Dear Bee, July 13. A meeting of the Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held which was most amusing. There was a discussion about increasing the membership. Five tickets we»e supplied to the seventeen present, who were asked to endeavour to get new members. One gentleman rose and a-ked if, in selling his tickets, and the Society agreed before the show that each ticket could admit gentleman and lady, could a lady, if she purchased a ticket, take a gentleman ' This caused a roar of laughter, and one member interjected that it was open to question whether ladies could be accepted as members. The members of the NAPIER AMATEIR OPERATIC SOCIETY intend having a social and dance, which lam sure will be most enjoyable. I believe the next piece to be produced is ‘ Le-* Cloches dn Cornville.’ We are, indeed, fortunate in having such talent in our midst as that displayed by the Misses Hitchings and Mr Swan. Mr Weir’s voice will long be remembered in Napier; he established himself a great favourite. DANCE. Mrs Wenlcy’s dance was a great success. There were not quite so many people as at Mrs Carlile’s, but the room was quite full enough to allow of comfortable dancing. The floor was perfect. Miss Nelson and the Misses Williams were in from the country for the dance, and all looked very well indeed. Miss Logan, as usual, looked one of the best in the room. PERSONALIA. Mrs Von Dad el zen is laid up with the measles. Mis® Gleeson, from Hastings, has come into town to stay with her and look after her. Lady Whitmore and Mrs Dixon are expected back to-morrow. The former lady has derived great benefit from the change. Mr Buckley, of Christchurch, has been stopping in town fora short time. He is looking remarkably well, and as if Christchurch agreed with him. Mrs Norman, who has been stopping with Mrs Fred Williams, has returned to Gisborne. She has been staying in Hastings with Mrs Bcb Braithwaite for a time, the latter lady being laid up with the measles. Mrs and Miss Green arc still stopping at Clive, their house in Hastings not being yet completed. DRESSES. Mrs W. Tabuteau is wearing a most stylish brown gown braided with black, boa, and large black hat with yellow tips; I noticed Miss Tipping, of Hastings, in town, looking very nice in navy costume, black hat ; Miss .Jago wears a stylish fawn gown, black jacket, black hat with yellow feathers ; Miss Kate Hitchings, tweed gown, very fashionable fawn cape trimmed with astrachan, stylish hat.
