Dear Bee, July 1. The GIFT AUCTION AND BAZAAR in connection with the Convalescent Home was opened, as I told you. on Saturday afternoon by the Counte-s of Glasgow, whose speech was much liked. Dr. Newman also spoke. The Countess w as presented w it h a lovely basket of yellow chrysanthemums, tied with terracotta ribbons. There were a number of pretty stalls, and Thomas' Hall was beautifully decorated. The Countess wore a handsome black and old gold striped gown, with broad epaulettes and trimmings of black velvet and jet. also a black and pink bonnet trimmed with aigrette and jet. The toadies Boyle wore red skirts with red and white striped blouses, red felt hats with black hands; Miss Hallowcs, heliotrope cloth dress, becoming heliotrope velvet hat with large butterfly bow ; Miss Wauchope was tastefully dressed in tobacco brown trimmed with black velvet and jet. large black velvet hat with feathers ; Miss Holroyd. pale terra-cotta with dark terracotta velvet zouave bodice, h it to match. hats; Miss Rhodes, handsome black trimmed with jet; Misses Williams Rwu).cream serge, large black velvet hat with feathers; Miss Hector, grey tweed; Miss Henry, black and pink. The millinery stall w is a decided novelty, and did capital business. The chapeaux wl i?h were the very latest fashion, w ere arrangetd under a huge Japanese umbrella. The art stall was very pretty. Pictures, prints, j h dos. artistic lamp shades, and various house decorations were to be seen there. The sweets’stall contained every kind of swee meat, all home-made. The produce stall was laden with game, lamb, bacon, cheese, butter, eggs, poultry, homemade bread, cakes, etc., etc.
