Dear Bee, June 29. The opera • RIP VAN WINKLE has been a decided success from every point of view. The performers have been rewarded with bumper houses, fair weather, and any amount of applause, which they certainly deserved, as the opera was admirably staged. Miss Hitchings, as Katrina, looked very charming in a most becoming heliotrope dress, fitting her lovely figure to perfection. She looked very handsome also in her court dress. Mrs Sheath, as Gretchen, looked very winning in a pretty grey frock trimmed with black velvet. Mr Erank Kennedy, who came from Gisborne to take the part of * Kip.’ was just splendid, as also was Mr Swan as Van Veader. 1 think the whole of Napier turned out on different nights to witness the opera I noticed Mesdames Williams.
