Here are some of the frock*, excluding that of the hostess. which i> in the 'Topics.' The Misses Ida and Hilda Johnston were in pretty eream trained gown*, and both wore their hair flatly arranged at the back mot topi of the head, and wore curled fringes : Mrs Menteath had a handsome white brocade draped with ervstalled net and trimmed with flowers: Mrs William*, a beautiful pale grey satin, brocaded with a darker shade and trimmed with steel bead*, and made with a very long train, her bouquet of camellias was magnificent: Miss Maud William* looked exceedingly well in palest grey trimmed with quantities of primroses ; Miss Molly Richardson wore a ouaint-looking gown of black velvet, trained, with long crinkled sleeves of white chiffon, the bodice also trimmed with deep frills of the chiffon : Miss Stow e wore soft cream silk trimmed with flower* : and Miss Medley, a pretty black gown, trained, with a berth*- of gold spangled gauze. It was a very nice idea, and one which was much appreciated, —to give a dance to the visiting College teams of Christchurch and Wanganui. The Old College Boy* were the hosts, and the dance was given in Thomas’ HalL A number of the High School girls were invited, besides the adults. All the visiting boys were taken in by different families, and altogether had a very good time here, although their captain* looked after them very strictly previous to the marches. Amongst those at the dance'were Mr J. P. Firth, the Principal of the Wellington College, and Mrs Firth the latter wearing a blue silk dress with high collar: ML*s Pickering wasin a red net dress: Miss Cotterill «Christchurch>. in white: Miss Duthie in a pretty pink dress: Miss George, in black: Miss Mcßae iChristchurehi. white : Mrs W. Crawford, a yellow silk dress with a ruche around the skirt; Miss s*tack •Christchurch?, black : Miss M. Reid, a red net with black velvet trimmings: Miss J. blue: Miss Me Kellar, a pretty white dress. The ball in aid of the Hospital is being seriously taken up by everybody, and I think will be a grand success. Mi« Noake gave a musical recital in Dresden Rooms a- a farewell to her pupil Miss Harris. Miss Harri* played several difficult ’election* remarkably well, and Miss Henry. Mr Wallace. Captain Barclay and Mr* Johnston and Miss Gudgeon and Miss Harris played a duet. Mis* Noake played the ncccmpaniments. and the large audience spent a delightful evening.
