WELLINGTON.

Dear Bee, July 28. Now that we know them more, I will give you perhaps a better idea of the Government House party than I could just at first. We fin I them a very charming family, who are likely to become more popular in Wellington than any other governor’s family has been. His Excellency is a fine upstanding man with almost white hair and long beard, and to give you some idea of what he is like, he might almo-t be taken for the Hon. J. B. Whyte or Mr Krull, of Wanganui, whilst many think him very like Mr Melville, the bank manager who went home to England a short time ago from Wellington, and others again say he is like Dr Henry or Mr Wardell, the lat ter of Masterton. You are certain to know some of these gentlemen. His Excellency is a very courtly gentleman, and is very active, frequently taking long walks, and dancing with great spirit in most dances, particularly the reels, of which he, and indeed his whole family, seem very fond. Lady Glasgow is a tall, handsome - looking Countess, with erect good figure, and wears her slightly grey hair high at the back, the front arranged very like the’ coiffure of the Princess of Wales. Capt. Hunter-Blair, her brother, is very like the Countess, as indeed are the other members of the family (especially the Hon. Ed. Boyle) with the exception of Lady Dorothy Boyle, who is very like her father, being the on y fair one of the family. Capt. Hunter-Blair is an enthusiast in dancing, especially that of the Scotch reels, which he dances perfectly, and looks very well in his kilt, etc. The Ladies Augusta, Alice and Dorothy Boyle dance the reels beautifully too, dancing each step quite as perfectly as Capt. Hunter-Blair, and that is giving them the highest praise possible. They frequently have small and very enjoyable reel parties in the afternoons at Government House from lour till six o’clock, and some of our best dancers, who have been practising there, arc becoming quite expert at them. DRESSES AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE. At the reception given by the Governor and the Countess of Glasgow in honour of Lord Charles Scott, the ladies wore their freshest and best without the least, fear of ther gowns being crushed or damaged in any way, and Lady Glasgow wore her beautiful gown of pale blue watered silk striped with rose pink satin, and made with a very long train, the bodice trimmed with pink feather and chiffon, and she wore her lovely diamonds and carried a large fan. The Ladies Boyle were there, and also the Hon. Edward Boyle, Miss Hallowes, Miss Sutcliffe. Colonel Boyle, Captain Hur.ter-Blair. Captain Clayton.
