Mrs Robert Pharazyn, brown checked tweed made with long coat tails bound with astrachan. and train, brown bonnet; Mrs Ballance, black; Mrs Robert Hart, black; Mrs R. Oliver (Dunedin), blue serge, crimson bonnet with feathers; Mrs Rhodes, of ‘The Grange,’ black, and handsome black cloth mantle with applique of black velvet; Mrs Reeves, black, black and yellow hat; she had with her her two children in pretty terra-cotta frocks trimmed with black; Mrs Fisher, black merveilleux, black and gold embroidered mantle; Madame de Lostalot. plush embroidered mantle, black and yellow bonnet; Mrs Castendyk ; Mrs Coleridge, black, and scarlet bonnet; Mrs Travers, a very handsome light brown striped tweed, trained, with green silk, brown velvet hat trimmed high at the back with bright green ana brown feathers; Miss Johnston, fawn trimmed with beaver, fawn hat; the Misses Williams, handsome plaid costumes; Miss Hadfield. Miss Holmes, Miss Pynsent, Miss Cooper; Miss Maud Grace in a brown costume ; Miss Annie St. Hill (Hastings), blue threequarter cloak with scarlet hood, scarlet toque with wings; Miss Brandon. Mrs Brown, Mrs E. Reid ; Miss Turnbull, handsome light checked gown, long brown jacket trimmed with sable, brown

hat; Mrs and Miss Gibson: Mrs Molineaux. electric blue silk, black bonnet ; Mrs Mason (Hutt), the Misses Wilford, Mrs Pollen, Miss Reynolds (Gisborne). Miss H. Williams (Dunedin). Miss Stowe. Miss Greenwood. Miss Black. Miss Griffiths, Miss McClean, and many others—in fact, it was so crowded that it was impossible to see w’ho was there. I do not ever remember seeing so great a crowd on an occasion of this sort before, and never before has there been so great a demand for tickets. Miss Woodman, head-mistress ot the Thorndon KINDERGARTEN SCHOOL, is about to pay a visit to the Mother Country’. During her six months’absence the school will be under the supervision of the Misses Meek. Widdop, and Curtis. Miss Woodman will be greatly missed, for she has done wonderful work amongst the children during the last few years, and we all wish her a pleasant holiday, for it is one that she has earned well. , A banquet to Sir Patrick Buckley is taking place as I write at Thomas’ Hall, where his friends met to congratulate him on his recent elevation to knighthood. Some smart frocks were worn at the CALEDONIAN SOCIETY WELCOME SOIREE. Sir James and Lady Hector were present, the latter wearinga black satin and lace gown, trained ; the Premier and Mrs Ballance, the latter in a handsome black watered silk, trained and trimmed with white feather trimming and flowers. Other guests were Mr A. de B. Brandon, Miss Brandon, in cream and pink bengaline, flowered ; Miss Hector, in white with pink front; Mr and Mrs Hislop, Dr. and Mrs McGregor, Miss McGregor, in pale blue cashmere; the Misses Gore, in cream ; Mrs Fisher, Miss Fisher, in cream ; Mr and Mrs Maskell, the latter in electric blue flowered with white ; Mr Gillon, the Misses Gillon, Mrs Duthie. Miss Duthie, in a pretty black and white gown trimmed with jet. Several officers from the ‘ Ringarooma,’ including Dr. Collins, Lieutenants Stansford, Buck and Batt. Dr. Gillon, Mrs Gillon, Colonel Hume, Mr and Mrs Luckic, Mr Stewart (Speaker), Mr Griffiths, in black trimmed with yellow chitton ; Miss Reid, black velvet with yellow chiffon frills ; Captain and Mrs Edwin, Miss Trehair - Osborne, in claret velvet trained and trimmed with chiffon; Miss Stanford, Mr and Mrs Miller, the latter in her wedding gown of white silk ; Mrs Hawthorne, the Rev. and Mrs Van Staveren, the Rev. Mr Ogg, Mr H. Gordon. Miss Gordon, in white ; Miss Chisholm, and Messrs Fife. Wright, Wrighton, Breinner, McKerrow, Turnbull, Anson, Gore, Hector, Jack, Powles. Gillon and Richie.
