CHRISTCHURCH.

Dear Bee, March 28. The weather in the beginning of the week was as bad as it was when I last wrote to you, but now I am glad to say we are again enjoying some really delightful autumnal days, with just a sufficient bite in the air to remind one of winter coming on, and to make one glad to wear stuff dresses. Of news, there is not very much to tell you, but I will do my best to scrape together all the items that will interest you. In the afternoon of Miss Maude Ford’s wedding Mrs Cowlishaw had one of her pleasant gatherings at her house at Avonside. It was intended at first to be a tennis party, but the inclemency of the weather prevented any outdoor amusements, so music was the order of the day. A very enjoyable time was spent by all present, Mrs Cowlishaw and her daughters being most assiduous in their efforts to entertain their guests. Mrs A. Morton Ollivier had an afternoon party at Opawa. About twenty were present. Amongst the guests weie the Misses Tabart, Greenwood, Graham, Thompson, Black, Willis, Murray-Aynsley, Wynn Williams, Beswick, Cowlishaw. Delicious tea and coffee were served in the diningroom, which was very much appreciated, the afternoon being quite cold. In fact, it is getting almost too late in the season now for outdoor gatherings to be pleasant, unless of course, people are fortunate enough to possess asphalt tennis-courts, in which case it is very nice to have small tennis-parties all through the winter.
