DAINTY LONDON COSTUMES.

At one of the West End Theatres we recently saw the stylish dress which is the subject of our first sketch. It was made in a delicate shade of grey cashmere, a la Princesse, and fastened at the back. It was then trimmed with steel beaded gimp as shown in illustration, three similar branches of the trimming in front coming round the back in same

fashion, giving the appearance almost oi a deep * swiss ’ belt. The steel gimp also shows on the tops of the sleeves, collar, and cuffs, and was also carried round the bottom of skirt, which was just to the ground, and quite plain excepting the back where it was gathered fully into the three (jack seams of bodice below the waist.

Another gown we lately saw very stylishly worn is given in our second design, and is equally effective in dark or light materials ; our model was a dark blue cloth, and looked both elegant and useful. Narrow black braid is the trimming on skirt, sleeves, collar, over the puffs of epaulettes on the shoulders, and round the pointed semi-zouave jacket ; the latter is not easy to fit successfully to most amateur dressmakers, and to those who do not find themselves equal to the occasion, we give the advice to braid the bodice in the shape (in preference to making a failure), of the detached jacket flaps.
