AUCKLAND.

Dear Bee, November 12. Quite contrary to all expectation-. the weather tor the holiday proved exceedingly pleasant and enjoyable, the change lieing rendered all the more agreeable after the boisterous and unseasonable weather experienced during the past few weeks. Full advantage was taken of the tine weather, for besides numerous private picnics, tennis parties, ami excursions by water, etc. The day opened with a very grand procession of the Labour Demonstration, all trades being well represented, the procession, enlivened by numerous bands, left the foot of the Queen-street AA’harf at 9.30, and made its way through the principal streets to the Domain, where sports of all kinds had been arranged, and were well carried out. Thousands of people assembled in gay spring attire to watch, and were much pleased with all they saw- in the town and at the Domain, while many others, I understand, were out at Ellerslie at the Spring Meeting of the Auckland Jockey Club. The Amateur Opera Club concluded their sea-on after a very successful run of six nights, an excellent attendance being recorded at each |K?rforniance. Amongst the ladies present I noticed Mrs A. H. Nathan, wearing a hand-ome black silk gown ; Mr- Masefield, very handsome gown of rich black -ilk brocaded with crimson, terra-cotta plush mantle : Miss Masefield, pretty gown of quaint velveteen. the corsage cut A’ shape back and front, and finished with iridescent trimming, gloves to match, aigrette of creme feathers in the hair : Mis- Devore looked exceedingly nice in a black net evening dress finished with jet: Miss’Carr, becoming pale pink evening dress : Miss Andrews, stylish heliotrope gow n ; Mrs Houton, black -ilk gow n ; Miss Hall, pretty black silk and lace evening dress, aigrette of pink feathers in the hair; Misses Harding, handsome pale green shot silk evening dresses; Mrs P. A. Edmiston, beautiful gown of black satin and lace with panels of amber satin, plush opera mantle : Mrs Day, black -ilk evening dress, the corsage finished with a large cluster of natural flowers ; Miss Chew, pale blue evening dress ; Miss Essie Chew, creme gow n with large sash of creme silk ; Mrs Hyman Hyams wore her handsome wedding gown of white silk ; Mrs AA'ynyard, lovely pale blue siik evening dress ; Miss Armitage, black evening dress, long tan kid glove-, creme o|H?ra mantle; Mrs C. Reid, black gown, ruby plush mantle : Mrs Clark, handsome ruby-ilk gown, kid glove.-: Mrs J. Briton, rich black moire silk gow n : Miss Briton, handsome trained evening dress of creme satin, long kid gloves ; her younger sisters al-o wore pretty evening dresses; Mrs Butler, eiffel coloured gown with front of Jpale pink silk ; Mrs J. At the conclusion of the final performance the meml-ers of the Club were entertained at a light and dainty supper by the nieicliers of committee. The annual children's ball inconnection with the Ponsonby ‘ At Home proved a great success. A large numlrer of young people of l»>th -exes were present, who apparently enjoyed themselves to their heart scontent. An excellent committee of ladies and gentlemen superintended ail the arrangements, which were very well carried out, while the music supplier! by Adam-' band was all that could be desired. A large number of friend- and interested speetatorassembled in All Saint-' Church to witness the marriage of Mr Percy Bow ring ami Mi—E. R. Laird, second daughter of Mr AA illiam Laird, of Pon-onby. The bride wa- given away by her father, am! wore a tasteful and pretty trained gown of creme ca-hmere trimmed with -ilk. wreath of orange blo-som- and tulle veil, and carried a lovely Ivouqtiet of white blossoms tied with long loops of ribbon. She was attended by Mi-- Emily Bow ring ami her three -i-ter- abridesmaids, the first two wearing-tyli-h blue gown-, and the other couple, who were little girl-, pretty white frocks and wreath of pale yellow flowers. The bridegroom vvaattended by Mr Laird, brother of the bride, ami his own brother as groomsmen. The Rev. AA'. Calder was the officiating clergyman. It i- whi-|»ered that an engagement has recently taken place between Mr R. 11. l.u-k ami Mi- Be-i’e Rec-, daughter of Mr AA'. 1.. Rees, solicitor. 1 have -ten some pretty street dresses lately. Mt- J. M. Alexander was wearing a brown costume, relieved with variegated old exceedingly -tylish and Ik*coming black hat with ostrich feathers ; Mrs Lawry, terra cotta dress, bonnet of an artistic foamy green -hade ; a lady* who was with her was costumed in a marvellously glovefitting grey gown trimmed with moss green velvet, black hat with ostrich feather- and longish veil ; Mrs Motion (AA'estern Springs Lodge had on a long soft grey -ilk wrap, black bonnet relieved with white flowers ; Mrs T. H. Keep
