JANET: THE STORY OF A GOVERNESS.
‘THE GRAPHIC’S’ NEW SERIAL. We have much pleasure in announcing to our readers that we have secured, at considerable cost, a really first-class novel for our serial story. The writer is the deservedly popular Mrs Oliphant, whose clever delineations of character are shown at their best in this, her latest work. ‘Janet : The Story of a Governess,’ is a thrilling narrative of what appears to be a hidden crime. The mystery is well concealed, only now and again discovery seems imminent, and the reader’s curiosity is largely roused as to the unknown occupant of the unused rooms in the house where the heroine, Janet, finds herself. Nor is one of those pretty bits of love-making, for which Mrs Oliphant is so celebrated, omitted. Which will he marry 1 is the interesting question that the divided attentions of tho frequent visitor, Charley Meredith, causes to be asked. It would be unfair to anticipate the answer, so we merely content ourselves with advising all our usual readers io look out for a great treat, and those who do not already subscribe to the New Zealand Graphic to do so at once, so as to ensure getting this ' fascinating story regularly. The Initial chapters of JANET’ will be published in our issue Of NOVEMBER l&th.
