Going Back on His Promise.—' Yes,’ sighed the disappointed mother, ‘ I brought my son up very carefully and piously. As soon as he was old enough I got him to join the church and made him give me his solemn promise that when he married he would marry a Christian woman.’ ‘ And didn’t he?’ ‘No ; he married one of the girls of the choir.’
