A VENETIAN IDYL.
The place was Venice, on a balcony That darkly overhung the Grand Lagoon, The orchestra the gondoliers who sung Italian love songs ’neath a silvery moon. The stage setting was neither rich nor rare ; Our audience, the stars that smiled above ; The actors, darling, only you ami I ; The play we played, the one entitled Love. You lay there at my feet, your hand in mine, 1 taught you Borneo’s part—and you taught me A sweeter role than 1 had ever played ; Oh, happy night ! Ah, tender mystery I And happy silence falling on us both, The very air was molten with our bliss. Our two souls met and mingled, and our love Found its expression in a burning kiss
