SHAKING HANDS.

We shake hands all day in Amsterdam. It is no uncommon thing for two men to shake hands three times in one day. Such an expression as ‘ Good-bye,’ ‘ I’ll see you again in an hour or so ’ —‘ Goeden dag, ik zal u over een nurtje weer zien ’ —is invariably accompanied by a grasping of the hands. Children shake hands with their parents on returning home from their day-school for lunch and for dinner, and again on going to bed'. And I have a correspondent in the Dutch metropolis who makes a point of shaking hands with me by post. ‘ Believe me, yours, with a good shake hands,’ lie concludes his letter.
