Description of Plate No. I. (See Fashion Plate.)

No. 1 is a universally becoming bonnet arranged with Hat folds of biscuit-coloured cloth on either side, and in the centre of the crown at the back, a graduated insertion of golden-brown velvet. The cloth folds are bordered throughout by a very’ handsome gold galon, and held in place by two gold pins, while the full front is of golden-brown velvet. No. 2 is a smart empire hat—entirely novel in shape, in a beautiful shade of dark terra-cotta velvet, with a wide brim in front, and a very low crown almost hidden underfill! bows of satin ribbon, in two shades of terra-cotta, and a large shaded wing, surmounted by an osprey, in both of which the beautiful colours of the ribbon and velvet are more artistically repeated. No. 3 is a useful and becoming bonnet of black velvet, and made with softly folded sides, a fully pleated front, and a crown of open work jet, surrounded by a jetted coronet. Black velvet strings come from the centre of the crown at the back, and in front the bonnet is trimmed with Impeyan pheasant wings and a bird of paradise osprey. No. 4 is an exceedingly smart hat of brown velvet, in the prevailing Parisian shape, quite short at the back, but with a wide brim in front. The crown is bordered with a deep band of rich gold embroidery, and trimmed with long folds of velvet brought to a point in front, and secured with a small gold ornament, in the shape of a sickle. No. 5 is a most chic little bonnet of grey cloth, embroidered in metallic threads with acrescent and star design, and sold in combination with a smart muff artistically arranged to correspond. This set of bonnet and muff' will be sold in all the newest and most fashionable colourings. The bonnet has a crown of embroidered cloth, and a twisted diadem front of grey velvet, with upright bows of ribbon in the centre, fastened by gold-headed pins. The mutt' is of grey cloth, lined throughout with velvet, and finished in the newest fashion with a large velvet bow.

No. 6 is a beaver-coloured velvet hat, of a most becoming and tasteful shape, with a wide brim, sharply’ bent upwards in the middle, and a soft crown of velvet, gracefully’ draped, and surrounded by a narrow band of musquash fur. Long bows of beaver velvet are placed at the back, while in front there are two very quaint rosette bows of narrow velvet, one pure white, and the other brilliant yellow.

No. 7 is a delightful little bonnet, and made in a very dainty design, and one which is sure to be generally becoming. The crown is of black velvet draped with black Chantilly lace. At the sides there are folds of old rose velvet, covered with an embroidery of fine jet open work, and ornamented by a small bird of black plumage. The fully- pleated front is of old rose velvet, while the strings are of narrow black velvet, brought from the centre of the crown at the back.

No. 8 is a charming little toque of emerald-green velvet, and wonderfully becoming to almost any kind of face. The emerald-green velvet crown is surrounded by a deep, closefitting brim, covered with black embroidery, while on one side of the crown there is a large bird of black plumage, with sharply-pointed wings. No. 9is one of the new Parisian ‘ butterfly ’ bonnets, the whole of the crown being formed of an exact reproduction of the body and wings of a butterfly in ruby velvet, tastefully outlined with a fine jet embroidery, the body- being striped with lines of jet. Next the hair there is a dainty bordering of ruby ostrich feathers, surmounted by a twisted diadem of velvet.
