HOW SPEECHES ARE REPORTED.
REPORTER’S ROMANCE. Mr Gamp, in an eloquent speech, denounced the measure as unstatesmanlike and deficient in scope. He then briefly sketched the outlines of a comprehensive scheme which he Sroposed to substitute for the inefficient proposals of the linistry. His attack was probably the most damaging the Cabinet has met with this session, and it will not soon recover from the blow. M.H.R.’S REALITY. Mr Gamp : ‘Mr Speaker, the Bill now afore the ’Ouse is hall rot an’ oughter be throwed through the winder. It haint no good to nobody. (A voice; “Rats!”) The person as said rats is a horphan blackbeetle dyin’ in a soap-box. Why didn’t somebody throw him away when he was young ’ As I was sayin’ the Bill ain’t no good. The conshtitooency I reppersent wants to be purvided with a noo post-hoffis, an’ the Guv’ment ain’t dredged the creek, and in consekens of this neglect trade is a failin’ hoff. (Derisive cheers.) The hon. member that interrupted me jest now was found on a doorstep. (Cries of “ Come outside.”) I won’t. You’re a broken-down bandicoot. (A voice, “You’re a liar.”) I ain’t ! You’re another ! So’s your mother ! I’ll fight yer for tuppence. The institooshuns of this country hev gone to the dogs an’ I’m prepared to camp here till I take root afore this ’ere Bill gets through. There oughter be a loan floated for £10,000,000 an’ railways made everywhere. I ain’t going to be choked hoff. I moves as a hamendment that the Gov’ment be called upon to make lines all hover the country an’ that taxation be abolished righth off. (Loud applause.) An I wants this ’ere done hinstantly.
