"Surgical Ward Work and Nursing — a Handbook for Nurses and Others," by Alexander Miles, M.D., LL.D., F.R.C.B*. Ed. The fifth edition of this text book is now published. It deals very comprehensively with surgical work in general and commences with a review of (1) the nature of the process of repair or damaged tissues; (2) the various factors which may interfere with the process, and their modes of action ; and (3) the means taken to combat these factors.

From the same firm we receive "A Handbook on Venereal Diseases," by W. Turner Warwick, F.R.C.S. This book is for nurses and other engaged in the routine treatment of these diseases. Price, So far, few text books on the nursing of venereal diseases have been available for nurses, and this should prove of great assistance to nurses who are working in the clinics now established in many hospitals. The history of syphilis and gonorrhoea is given in the first chapter, and in the second the nurse's part in relation to these diseases is gone into. Advice to nurses regarding their attitude to the patient is wise, and the legal aspect is given. All these points it is well for a nurse to know. The chapters on treatment of the various diseases are very comprehensive.
